Gynecomastia Surgery

Gynecomastia Surgery

The idea that only the female audience is concerned with aesthetics is outdated. Today, it is proven in research the high number of men who pay attention to their body and appearance. And gynecomastia surgery in South Delhi is one of the most sought after procedures by them.

Gynecomastia affects 30% of the male population and represents a determining factor in causing serious psychological disorders, such as: low self-esteem, public embarrassment, social phobia and depression.

Fortunately, technology has evolved to the point where a simple procedure has the ability to correct and remove glands or excess fat from the mammary region.

Surgery is one of the most effective methods of current medicine recommended to correct unwanted breast enlargement. But do you know everything about the procedure?

Gynecomastia Surgery

What is gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is characterized by abnormal development of the mammary gland in men, a benign condition that is related to excess breast tissue — not excess fat, as many people think.

The condition can be either transient or permanent, and observation of the patient is recommended to see how the problem will evolve and to assess the need for surgical intervention to correct the condition.

While in women there is a hormonal stimulus for the growth of the mammary gland from adolescence onwards, in men this is not an expected change. The normal male breast, therefore, consists only of fat and an undeveloped mammary gland. In some individuals, however, there is an imbalance in the relationship between male and female hormones, thus generating gynecomastia.

This hormonal imbalance is considered normal at some stages of life, such as shortly after birth, puberty and old age. In these cases, the change tends to resolve itself naturally, requiring only monitoring the problem.

What causes gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia refers to enlargement of the mammary glands in men, causing discomfort and hypersensitivity. In scientific terms, it is the benign proliferation of the breasts, which can be temporary or permanent.

The irregular increase occurs due to elevated estrogen activity as a result of age, disease, drugs, or idiopathic factors. Only in extreme cases is the origin given by an endocrine tumor.

Main causes

Several factors can trigger this hormonal imbalance, such as:

  • Female hormone treatments;
  • Use of anabolic steroids;
  • Consumption of drugs;
  • Obesity;
  • Renal or liver failure;
  • Bad eating habits;
  • Non-testicular tumors

Gynecomastia: who affects it?

Irregular breast enlargement can happen to men of all ages.

Children

According to the best plastic surgeon in South Delhi Dr Anil Kumar Kaler, gynecomastia can appear in 30 to 60% of babies. In most cases, it happens through contact with the mother's estrogen during pregnancy. However, it usually disappears after a month naturally.

Puberty

The phenomenon usually appears between 3 and 14 years, as testosterone is transformed into estrogen and stimulates the growth of the mammary glands. The problem is more than common for this age group, affecting up to 60% of boys.

Third Age

Aging makes the man greatly reduce the production of testosterone and, with that, the breasts can have an unwanted increase. To give you an idea, up to 2/3 of those over 70 years old have gynecomastia.

How is the gynecomastia surgery in South Delhi performed?

Gynecomastia surgery is indicated when the symptoms do not disappear - the breasts increase in size - and go through adulthood.

The procedure, however, is very simple to repair such a condition. However, as it is an operation, it is necessary to choose a good surgeon, in addition to having a medical indication to perform such a procedure.

The procedure is performed from an incision in the thoracic region (usually around the areola), through which the plastic surgeon in East of Kailash removes excess breast tissue and fat. In more severe cases, it may be necessary to reposition the areola and also remove excess skin from the region. Very often, liposuction in the region can be performed to achieve more satisfactory results.

Gynecomastia surgery leaves a scar, but it becomes camouflaged by the areola. In most cases, it is discreet and blends in with the skin.

After the procedure, the plastic surgeon in South Delhi will prescribe medication to prevent swelling and pain. It will also be necessary to use a surgical vest for 30 to 45 days.

Following the doctor's instructions is essential so that scars do not develop into unwanted protrusions, such as keloids or hypertrophy.

Gynecomastia surgery in South Delhi does not require a long recovery time from the patient. You are discharged on the same day as the procedure. A few days later you can return to work. For lighter exercises, 15 to 20 days of rest is recommended.

How long does the surgery take?

The gynecomastia surgery time can last up to 3 hours, but it differs from patient to patient. Local, epidural or general anesthesia is used.

Who is it for?

It is an aesthetic procedure, but gynecomastia surgery in South Delhi is indicated for older men in whom symptoms persist even after treatment in adolescence.
